Our President and industry leaders such as Mark Zuckerberg are inviting the young man who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school to visit the White House for Astronomy night, October 19th and Facebook HQ. They and others are celebrating his accomplishments in science and that we should be creating environments where creativity in the area is encouraged not shunned. This young man has gone from obscurity to celebrity in the span of a few days because of the initial overreaction of a teacher, school officials, and police. That said remember they erred on the side of safety for all at the school. What could have been a negative impact on his life has turned into a positive one and we should all be thankful that every once in a while a positive story is told.

Without reading the police report, I found this case an exercise in stupidity. I'm a cop, and I think those cops were idiots, along with the school and the mayor.

CPT (Join to see) Captain, I'm a person that errs on the side of 'if they MIGHT be radical, they should be considered so'.

In this case, I'd be entirely wrong. This young man was wronged by his teachers, by his administrators, by his government. My sentiment is so strong that, viewing a live interview, I disliked his mother because of her hijab. THIS IS MY PROBLEM. Not hers. Not his. This kid was villified for no reason. I am glad that industry giants extended invitations to him. I dislike that the president did so because that disingenuous fuck did it for political reasons...but still. The KID deserved it.

Bottom line? I don't have a problem with how this is going for him. So far.

What do the following kids have in common?

Peter Mathis of Wilmington, North Carolina
Haley Zinke and Tasha Williams of Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Logan Weimer of Holland, Ohio
Indy Brumbraugh and Cesar Limas of Dade City, Florida
Tori Clark of Ellis, Kansas
Ahmed Mohamed, Irving, Texas

They all brought home made clocks to school!

Which one ended up in hand-cuffs?

But of course, when will an opportunity to politicize a situation caused by his policies at schools not be used as a pandering tool?

Bull. If they thought for one moment that they actually had an actual bomb or bomb component, the school would have been evacuated immediately. If they thought for one moment that he actually intended a bomb hoax, he would have been carted off in handcuffs immediately rather than far later and would have been in jail rather than immediately returned to parents. Their own reaction shows how paper-thin that excuse is...

I'm happy for this kid, as I've said before. But the real lesson to be taken away by him is twofold; 1. Never stop dreaming, you can make your future what you want it to be, and 2. Forgiveness is the hardest thing to do, and something he'll do in his own time.

I just saw this on the news. I was quite surprised that his situation warranted a trip to the white house. Things that make you go Hmm!

Seems like an appropriate venue for a 14 year old interested in science:

"Today [21 August 2015], we are excited to announce that the White House will host another Astronomy Night on October 19. The event will bring together scientists, engineers, and visionaries from astronomy and the space industry to share their experiences with students and teachers as they spend an evening stargazing from the South Lawn. In addition to inspiring students and stargazers from across the country to learn about the newest astronomical discoveries and the technologies that enable us to explore and live in space, we are continuing progress on the President's call to action to expand access and opportunities for students and adults to participate in the wonders of science and space."

Sure, I am quite certain that he made a great deal or negotiate a lot of stuff, particularly with the Milk Bathing Cheerio eating woman, and race hustlers parents of Michael Brown.

CPT (Join to see) - Not at all surprising. Trying to make this a big issue, which it is not. If this had been a Caucasian named John Smith, it would not be on the radar screen. The media and the Resident are trying to make this an issue it is not. Typical for these hate mongers...

TSgt Jaime Jones - I don't believe that is true. There have been many more "John Smiths" arrested for such things than "Mohameds".

What is true is that, if he was "John Smith", it would not be a news article nor would he being invited to the White House.

Having read about this yesterday, it is of my opinion that the entire situation...from him bringing that clock to school......to the reaction of the police...........was an entire poodle screw.
