Did the fact that elections are just two days away have something to do with the release of the Marine from a Mexican jail?

I'll say that I am 99.9% that the only reason he got freed is because of the elections

I concur SFC (Join to see) I am glad that an imprisoned Marine will spend the holidays with his family, but am frustrated that he was used as a political pawn. It also raises questions, at least in my mind, as to how many other similar situations are being used for political posturing.

I'm going to go with yes. The Mexican government has as vested an interest in America's good will at the polls as our motley assortment of politicians do.

I am thankful he is home, but the fact that he was used as a political pawn for the purpose of gaining votes is frustrating.
This should have come a long time ago.

That's an interesting thought.
But, I don't know how they would gain "our" good will when there is really nothing on the ballot that would directly influence our good will. That's just my opinion though.
What do you think is out there for voter consideration that would foster our good will?

There is a strong Latin-American presence in Southern California. A negotiated agreement with particular candidates and/or lobbyists leads to a boost among the Latin demographic in favor of a candidate. This can lead to better cross border trade agreements, changes in immigration laws, guest visas for visiting family. American good will goes a long way to quelling the voices of those screaming for the 100' fence from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Great question, something we will probably never know...but most important, he has been released!

I am seriously concerned that politicians will use a situation such as this to gain political favor or votes from a key demographic.
