You pack exactly, and I mean exactly what is on the list. You don't want to be drop because you missed a pair of socks or something. You also want to wear your most broken-in pair of boots. I recommend the basic issue boots as long as they well broken-in.

WO1 (Join to see) The full packing list should be in the Assault Pack sir. Wear of the IBA/IOTV is dependent on the time of year. I am not sure if they are still on the winter packing list. Normally, the black shirt's inspect assault packs after the road march to ensure you still have the full packing list. Hope this helps sir.

They should go inside the assault pack. That is correct.

Just the plates or the entire IOTV? Seems like it would be pretty tight squeeze to pack the entire thing in an assault pack on top of the normal packing list.

Just the plates. For the summer packing list you will have whatever is on the summer packing list as well as the plates in the assault pack.

WO1 (Join to see) - when I went this pass winter at Fort Benning, we didn't wear IOTV. It was just the flick vest with Flash light on it.

There is a packing list provided by the school. Don't deviate from that list.

WO1 (Join to see) As in not even a little, not even a substitution.
If the packing list calls for a 2qt canteen, two 1 qt canteens is not authorized....unless it is.
You make that call, and your out or at best doing the RD march again, You ask the black shirt as your 2 qt has a leak,,,and they approve, then your good to go.

Its not just the weight and physical item, its the following the guidance given and attention to detail...
For when you cant " following the guidance given and attention to detail" loads fall out of the sky..and thats generally frowned upon.

Can someone tell me exactly what they packed and what they wore for the final 12-mile ruck march for Air Assault school?

If you want that JUST for pre training conditioning well there ya go....
But I would suggest you BURN IT the second you get your schools packet for attendance. As what I just linked to is several months old and as likely to be slightly outdated as it is still valid.

The packing list from the school is exactly what you will need for inspection and your rucksack for the 12 mile ruck march. If you miss an item, you get dropped from the course. The school had one last inspection after the end of the 12 mile ruck march and a few Soldiers didn't pass after all that time. They modified or missed items on the final inspection. We were the first class in 2007 when the DIV CSM had us wear the IOTV with plates. It was heavier for sure but I still managed and adjusted the game plan to complete the 12 mile at Ft. Campbell.

I don't recall the items, but I do recall being given a list, of which I checked, double checked, and triple checked prior to the march.

You'll pack the whole packing list in your assault pack. Hot summer mornings, they'll have you put plates in the pack as well and possibly have you cuff your pants and jacket. May just get away with wearing a PC as well. TSAAS has gotten incredibly soft in the last few years, so soldiers mainly get dropped for layouts and integrity violations.
