Now that the penalty phase has begun, the big question is whether or not to give him the death penalty. 17 of the 30 charges he was convicted of carry a possible death sentence. Is this guy worth the money to put on death row or could he spend the rest of his life in prison at a much lesser cost?

My opinion I feel he deserves the death penalty for what he did. I feel for the family, the police officers and everybody who was involved. it was a tragic day and he should be held responsible for his actions. I don't believe in taking care of people like this, but the appeals process and the way the system works in the United States he may sit on death row for 30 years just wondering everybody else's thoughts.

Not just life, but solitary confinement. For his life, that is a very long time. Even the victims families don't want the death penalty, as it will just drag it all back up every few years when there is yet another appeal.

I believe a tone should be set. Death penalty. I haven't done research but I want to assume by setting the death penalty for this crime, others would tread carefully with anything regarding terrorism. There's a lot of wannabes that just join the cause for the hell of it. Hey, let's go be terrorists and they really don't know what they're getting themselves into. Death penalty puts things into perspective. I'd hope the trend of joining an extremist group would lessen with this example. Yea, I know, wishful thinking.

If the crime fits, death penalty is fine with me. Then I remember how effective our justice system "CAN" be. That's where I feel the most conflicted.

Good topic! I'll be thinking about this all day.

Death penalty gets my vote. However I feel the death penalty has become to light. Many who get put on it spend 15-20 years doing appeals, what is the point? My thoughts... 1 appeal and done. Within 6 months max of being assigned the death penalty, it should be carried out. Save the taxpayers some money and use a bullet or a rope. Both are cheap.

There definitely needs to be in more locked down appeal system although with a lot of the inaccuracies with some people who are innocent (opinion) I just think after the one appeal if it is not over turned you die.

Usually when the death penalty is even considered, their is more than sufficient evidence to prove the person is guilty of the accused crime.

Being such a well publicized act of terror, I believe he has earned the death penalty for what he has done.

I vote death, which is what my tat has on it, that I got before Nam. "Death To My Enemies"
But, he may want death and be considered a hero, by his gutless, ISIS buddies.
