I have 2 small children and 2 small dogs. We really want to do a road trip but I want to hear what others have done. Moving from Fort Hood

Do the road trip. Plan it out but be willing to wing it. Try to do most of your driving at night time if you want to make miles.
That will mostly be the last part of your trip from in Canada to TOK. AK

SGT Ronnie Warford - I took extra cash just in case. But didn't really need to. I have traveled from Alaska to NC and back and then to TX and then back to AK and then back to OK.
I put everything on my Card. No issues any of the trips and I had receipts for everything.
Make sure you keep all your receipts.

You can claim a partial dity move and they will pay you for the weight and per person in your car. I towed a small trailer and packed my SUV and even after expenses made like 1500.

I had one small child when we pcs to Alaska the first time. We took the road trip and it was awesome. The sites and the lay of the land is beautiful. Best time to go is between May and August.

Do the little ones need a passport and it will be around September 6-11th so you think it will be fine?

SGT Ronnie Warford - Yes they do the military will provide them for you, you just have to go over to travel and they will tell you where to get them. Early September is good. There will still be around 14-18 hours of daylight

SGT Ronnie Warford - What base are you going to? Ft Wainwright, Ft Richardson, Ft Greely. Do you like the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking?

SSG Leo Bell - Does everyone in the family need passports because I've seen sites that say yes and others that say no. Haven't got a Levy Brief scheduled yet so just trying to find that answer out. I plan to drive through Canada.

SGT Ronnie Warford Sounds like the trip of a lifetime, I am envious. Be prepared for emergencies and carry a huge load of patience for everything and everybody.
