Pentagon
If you had the opportunity, would you apply for/accept an assignment in the Pentagon?

With the Army opening more assignments to align with the Broadening Opportunity Program, you may have additional career-enhancing assignments within our Nation's Capitol (or just across the river from).

Wrong question in the wrong sequence. The first question is not "should a Soldier apply for / accept an assignment in the Pentagon". The first question is "what are my personal and professional goals?". The second question is "what are the best jobs and locations which help me to accomplish my personal and professional goals?". The third question, based upon answers to the first two questions is "should I apply for / accept an assignment in the Pentagon. If a Soldier does not want the Pentagon and is assigned there anyway (a very real possibility) then my advice is to "grow where you are planted".

SGM Quick, if I had the opportunity to apply or accept a position at the Pentagon I would do so. As COL Smallfield mentioned, a position at the Pentagon would help in reaching personal and professional goals. I am always looking to broaden my perspective in the Army. I am currently enroute to JFC Naples, Italy and accepted the opportunity not simply due to the location but due to the opportunity it would provide me both professionally and personally. I fully understand that the Army will send me where they need me, but if I had the opportunity to broaden my view and perspective within BIG Army, I would accept fully and willingly.

As far as I am tracking, assignment to Pentagon is done either by application or by a review of your records, no happening upon this assignment. You must maintain your records and possess the quality or technical certifications they are looking for. Either that or apply listing those attributes. So, I believe that the question posed is correct.

CPT Weber, I am currently serving at the Pentagon and honestly, I was surprised to get the call. My branch manager read my file, had a working relationship with me already so he knew what I brought to the table, and thought it would be a great opportunity. I of course jumped at the chance always looking to get a new perspective of the Army. I tell those I meet not to. shoot it down because their buddy had a bad experience and bad mouthed it. You get out of what you put in, and meeting the people here (networking) is a reward unto itself. Remember that the Pentagon is all about policy and money. If you expect anything else you'll be disappointed but you don't need to have a finance degree to make it. Plenty of Captains here but your right, more iron majors and LTC then anything else. Talk with your branch manager and see if it's right for your job at your current stage in your career.

A few years ago I did accept the challenge and must say it was professionally and personally rewarding in spite of the traffic and congestion, etc. It was quite interesting to see the BIG ARMY and DoD at work.
