So basically what I gather so far from this discussion is I need to
1. Save even more money in a fancy account
2. Get married
3. Never have kids

Ugh this sucks!

CW5 Sam Baker Dave Ramsey has some good ideas but at the same time is not talking to everyone. He is talking to the medium of the population. Most people that are in the military over the rank of E4 are not in this group. If you would like to know more about what I am talking about feel free to give me a call. I will explain more at any time. My number is [login to see]

SSG V. Michelle Woods if you would like send me your number and I will get you into contact in your area that can help you understand everything.

CSM Dan Coberly The same goes for you if you would like to understand why what you are doing could be a good thing or could even be a very bad thing. Not saying what you are doing is bad or good just looking out for you.

Absolutely not set. At almost fifty, I am almost set to begin a new career, I figure I will retire when I expire.

I really wish that when Thrift Savings came out, someone that actually knew what they were talking about would have sat people down and discussed it. I never did it....and finally received a briefing less then 1 year ago..... I don't think that 2 years will be enough, so I am not going to do it....but would have been helpful 15 years ago!

Hmm...thanks for posting Maj Chris Nelson. I think I'll go ahead and look into it especially with so many people on this thread recommending it.

SSG Woods, at the very least, I would talk with someone that can (with solid knowledge) discuss the main points...what it can do, what it can't do, how much flexibility you have in moving money around..... You can not make a good decission without information. It may or may not be your best choice, but you won't know unless you discuss it with someone.
