Are you Sergeant Morales or Sergeant Audie Murphy material? Here's a professional development scenario for you.

To develop discussion as well as develop our future leaders, I would like to share some basic leadership scenarios that could help in the development of our current and leaders....enjoy.

Let me share a scenario with you - often used by the HHC 1SG at the BN screening board.

You are a male Soldier holding the ankles of a female Soldier during the sit-up event of a record PT (APFT) test and after about 15 repetitions, you happen to notice she has cut the liner out of her fitness trunks and is not wearing any spandex or underwear - what are you going to do?

As you answer, understand there will be many perspectives - I will likely encourage you to expand your participation and potential courses of action with the intent of expanding you (and me) as leaders.

Let me know if this type of leadership development scenario's is something you'd like to see more of.

I have actually had this happen. What I did was just keep my eyes forward until after completion of the event. Then I informed her immediately after that that's probably not a good idea. She could be setting herself up for some very vulnerable situations and unwanted attention.
I think in all situations but especially these we must maintain our professionalism and try to protect the soldier as much as possible. This is not something to be broadcasted and handled that the lowest level possible.
In this scenario however I would have to question the soldiers awareness and try to determine if her intentions were bad. Because I'm sure most females know that during the set ups with no undergarments on what is possible to be seen.

SSG Robert Burns,

Not only is it "probably not a good idea", but it is in violation of regulation.

That's what I was going to say. She just walked up on there exposed like that? I have never heard of such scenario or seen one, but I would be neck deep up in her shit wondering what the hell she was thinking.

Never had it happen with a female soldier, but have had it happen with a male soldier while I was in OCS. My solution was to do my best impression of an Easter Island statue during the event, followed by merciless mockery after the event.

I am with many of the other commenters. I usually turn my head to the side to keep from inhaling the nasty morning breath spewing forth from their pie holes.

With that being said, if I noticed the lack of underwear, that young lady would get the same correction as a male that had his junk hanging out. I would pull her off to the side after completion of the sit-ups and tell her the error of her ways.

I am with you CSM Mike Oldsen as I have always turned my head to the side for the same exact reason you do. To specify to other service members the Soldier holding their battle buddies feet does not count repetitions. This is the graders responsibility along with ensuring that the Soldier is executing the exercise correctly.

As for taking the liner out of out PT shorts this for comfort in regard to ill fitting attire.

CSM,
Some initial questions, "why did this female cut her lining from her PT shorts?", "Why didn't she request a female?", "Why didn't she alert the male to avert his eyes if there was a bona fide reason as to why she cut the liner?".

All that said, I would say that eyes stay cased forward allowing "me" to continue the count. Immediately afterward, address this issue to the female soldier and instruct her that is unsat. I hate to say this but depending on the reason for why the female cut her lining, she may crave negative attention, therefore, I would have someone witness this conversation at the lowest level. Consider that the first warning.

Yes, I would like to see more leadership scenarios. Great idea, CSM!

I wouldn't say razor wire.. but I would have never used "buttery soft" to describe them. We may have to get a third opinion regarding those ranger panties to bracket them in.

Request a female??? Alert the male??? NO she is a soldier and should be treated the same... vice versa it would be a huge no-go and in this scenario remains a huge no-go... equal is equal or its not
