Hello everyone.

Do you know only 70B (Healthcare Administration) falls under AMEDD or 70E (Patient Administration) , 70D (Health services system management), and Health services Plans, Operations and Intelligence also fall under AMEDD ?

If only 70B, then, can you go Direct commissioned as well through non-AMEDD recruiter as well or something else ?

They are under the AMEDD. The Medical Service Corps is one of six Branches (7 if you count AMEDD civilians) All 70 series AOCs (Area of Concentration) are part of the Administrative Health Services MFA (Medical Functional Area). 70B is the entry point into the MFA and feed the other AOCs. Training courses and assignments drive being designated one of the other AOCs. The other MFAs are Preventive Medicine, Allied and Clinical Health Sciences. Most Direct Commision programs focus on the Branches that provide direct patient care or very unique specialties in the MSC - mostly in the other MFAs. Not completely sure you can’t be commissioned directly into 70 series but unlikely as there is more than enough interest in ROTC and USMA to satisfy requirements. Ask an AMEDD recruiter though.

Gurpreet Singh like LT Brooks said everyone starts as a 70B then around your 8 year mark there is a panel that meets and designates an AOC for you to work in. There is a preference sheet you submit your desires. I don’t know when Direct Commission boards meet if that is what you are asking.

Good Afternoon Sir,
I am not sure if you are still tracking this thread messages, I hope you are. I am trying to find something to substantiate a petition that I will make to a CG through his opendoor policy. I have a Master Degree in Healthcare Management and tried to go AMEDD Direct Commission for 8 years with no luck, I am always being told "try next year". I applied to OCS and was rejected twice because I am 42 now. The CG might be the one who cam help me at this point and I am Active Duty Enlisted (E-5). Would you be able to point me in a good direction?
Thank you.

You can only enter the Active and Reserve Army Medical Department (AMEDD) as a 70B and only through an AMEDD Recruiter. There are exceptions for OCS to branch MS/70B but most MSC 70B Officers come from ROTC or West Point. The other specialities require proven experience, training and education prior to designation between your sixth-eighth year of commissioned service. I would work with an AMEDD Recruiter, Enlisted Recruiters tend to “promise” that enlisting and applying for OCS is a path to the AMEDD, it’s not. Please let me know if I can clarify further. Good luck.

SGT Jimmy Bones I’m not sure about National Guard OCS, but Army OCS doesn’t offer MS/70B. Only ROTC or West Point. Direct Commission (USAR) was the only other route I know of, they no longer allow Active Duty Direct Appointments to MS/70B. I’d validate if MS is a branch you can choose in OCS before I’d sign a contract. The AMEDD DCC is only for Direct Commission Officers (MC, AN, SP, VC, MS other than 70B). Then BOLC is the second part of the officer education process. Think of it like this: Basic = OCS or DCC and AIT = BOLC-B.

SGT Jimmy Bones it can’t hurt to contact the units and see if they have vacancies or if you’ll be double slotted. As for branch being put in you contract for OCS, no. They can’t guarantee a branch when going through OCS. There is a branching process that is determined by your rank and standing on the OML within your class. Being an officer is highly competitive, nothing is guaranteed which includes earning a commission. I’d reflect on what you really want. Is it the Branch and AOC? Or is it to simply be an officer? It all depends on you. Good luck.

This video might clear out some confusions about 70 AOC. 70B is the initial AOC you get in to mostly through USMA, ROTC or Direct Commission. It is an AMEDD branch and no you can not go through regular recruiter. I was initially going to do this but last minute decided to go to OCS instead.. shoot me a message if you have further questions. Just find yourself an AMEDD recruiter in your area.
