My book collection could fill a small library, my kindle collection is an incredible space saver. But there are some books that deserve to be kept as Hard Copy. I received this one today. "Still Standing" written by Major Steven "Blaster" Hirst with assistance following a crash on black ice while stationed in Alaska changed a shining USAF Academy Grad and highly skilled war honed fighter pilot completely, another.

We Were Soldiers Once...and Young by LTG Hal Moore and Joe Galloway. Great book and closely depicted in the film.

I believe that the book was superior in quality to the movie. I read the book after viewing the movie, and I think that I would have been better served to have reversed that order. The book explained the action better. The battle depicted was the first large unit action in the Vietnam War and so has great historical value.

De MAJ Rene De La Rosa That was the next to last 'war' movie I watched. "Blackhawk Down" was the last. Peace and quiet are comforting.

I have read the book and also saw the movie, both are well worth while. Also on the movie the soldiers depicted not only wore proper uniforms they actually had to participate in Military training to add Advanced Infantry training to that, and live in the Army barracks prior to the filming even starting. They wanted them to look and act like soldiers. A the end of the movie they scrolled down the names of all the soldier that had been killed in that battle.

Also anything from Dale Brown, a former Air Force Captain. I find His books are so fast paced with action I start reading faster. They are all based on Military stories and a lot of the character move from book to book, then their children move on into things. Deals with a lot of High tech Air Force hardware but fiction. I read anything from Dale Brown I can get My hands on. His First book was "The Flight of the Old Dog" about a highly modified B52 that went on a mission after extensive upgrade at a Top secret base in the Nevada Dessert called Dreamland.

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by my second favorite dirty hippy, Robert Fulghum. Very easy light reading but if you're want something to put stuff in perspective ...
1. Share everything.
2. Play fair.
3. Don't hit people.
4. Put things back where you found them.
5. CLEAN UP YOUR OWN MESS.
6. Don't take things that aren't yours.
7. Say you're SORRY when you HURT somebody.
8. Wash your hands before you eat.
9. Flush.
10. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
11. Live a balanced life - learn some and drink some and draw some and paint some and sing and dance and play and work everyday some.
12. Take a nap every afternoon.
13. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
14. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
15. Goldfish and hamster and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
16. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.”

MSG (Join to see) Thanks for reminding us of the basics of a "civilized" world. That was a great choice. Since it is graduation, another one I see flying off the shelves is "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. He managed to fill his seemingly fanciful tales with great messages using a very limited vocabulary (his goal.)

Maj Kim Patterson I am most pleased and proud of my Kipling books. I don't care if Queen Victoria banned him for a while. I consider Kipling's works to be literature I can understand and relate to in many ways.

I meta 13 year old avid reader last summer, 2015. We enjoyed one of those few moments people seldom have with one another. I happened to own a 'gilded' copy of The Jungle Book. Kaitlin soon wrote that she loved her new book so much that she would hold it to her chest and ever put it down until she had completed reading it

CSM Charles Hayden Some books are candy for the mind, a little junk food never hurts but I think it's wonderful you introduced her to a personal favorite of yours that is great literature. The library allowed me to go places and meet people through biographies right from my own spot and many times as I closed that last page, I would look up and blink to regain my bearings. Trips to the library and a book of my very own for Christmas were my greatest childhood treasures.

Maj Kim Patterson not to expound, but when I was in the 2nd grade, 1942/43 in Columbus, OH; I would walk home from a 'Carnegie' Library reading and carrying as many books as I could handle. When I drove by in 1995?, that library had been demolished.
