If they want to punish somebody it has to be whoever did JMPI, a fish and a gopro, How this two items made it to the plane? It might wasn't the smartest and safe way to jump but also it wasn't the best JMPI, that's why our paratroopers are getting hurt while training and they keep blame the equipment and not the person inspecting the equipment.

I think the story just gave him additional attention...which is all he wanted in the first place. My guess...and it is only a guess...SPC Tattersall's chain of command will not be deeply sadden to see him go?
The only think I actually cared one way or the other about in the whole story was that I disagreed with SPC Tattersall, in that I do not think the fish needed to be punished.

Seemed like a stunt Gomer Pyle would have pulled. You know , just for Goober.

May be I am terrible but really, was it really that bad. I have seen guys jump with their spurs (far more dangerous).
I saw guys riding donkeys in Iraq. I would be annoyed more than anything. You can jump a water bottle. You can "Go Pro" a jump. So what if the guy had a fish. What if he got hungry while looking for his Airborne items". Seriously that is his Airborne Buddy. Does any one know the history of mascots the accompanied Paratroopers on Airborne Operations?

I do not disagree with anything you said Sir but from reading the story...there was a lot more going on behind the scenes and we have all had troops like our fish carrying Specialist.
While I have seen videos of donkey 'riding' in Iraq, I hope that wasn't any of our troops?

One of the best enlisted leaders that walked this earth organized it. He is retired but I will not say his name. He had the absolute respect of everyone and enforced standards. But after several casualties and a period of high optempo he organized a race.

I have to approve of this event without approving the act of breaking the safety rules. I'm not informed enough about parachuting to know if this was actually dangerous or not. However, the high spirit, the inventiveness, and the total positive attitude about the consequences tells me they are losing a good troop. This will be one of those stories that will be around forever......."Do y'all remember that crazy so and so that jumped with his pet fish?" followed by chuckles and head shakes........ I'm willing to bet that directly after he received his article 15 and left the room there were laughs and chuckles all around. Discipline was upheld, the forms obeyed, and a new inspiration was created. It will take some real work to equal or surpass this one........
