Dr. Carson talked about disbanding the VA and starting over. I originally thought no, we don't have a viable alternative that would work immediately and help the vets in need now. Maybe I was wrong, and he was onto something. After reading this, I'm leaning his way. What do you think? I posted the picture of the President because the findings are going to his desk, and hard decisions need to be made.

I think that realistically, with only some small changes, the DoD can absorb the VA. It would probably save money overall, and also improve the level of care, both for Veterans and Active Duty/Dependents. Access to specialists would increase because the resources would be pooled instead of separated out.

There are definitely kinks to be worked out, but it could be done.

Sir, would DoD also take the pensions aspects of VA or just the hospitals themselves? How would the Feres Act work then? DoD taking over the hospitals could be good in having ONE method of tracking medicines and care given rather than the constant "what did your TRICARE Dr. say, or what did the VA Dr. say"? I hear this A LOT!

SSG Warren Swan exactly what I was thinking.

I think the pension aspects would have to be taken over as well. UNLESS we move ALL pension aspects to Dept of Treasury, including the ones currently covered by DoD. *Shrug* I admittedly don't know that much about that part, but it does seem somewhat logical.

SSG Warren Swan, I don't think that it is a bad idea. The VA has had many issues from the top to the bottom and something needs to be done in-order to provide better support and resources to our nations Veterans.

Sir, it's a rhetorical question, but how many MORE need to hurt for these decisions to be made? And who has the nads to make them?

SSG Warren Swan, I understand where you are coming from. It's unforunate that people have to suffer while changes are being made, but where did the VA start to go wrong? Has all the issues been indentified?

CW4 (Join to see) - Sir, that is a HARD question to answer, and I don't think there is one right answer to it, being that the issues VA faces aren't limited to just healthcare. It's manpower, attitudes, senior employee entitlements (warranted or not), and the lack of oversight. LCDR Nicholas Mulcahey had an idea with merit; place the VA under DoD. I like it, and after a night of thinking about it, it could very well work. The downside of it would be that like DHS became the juggernaut it did when all of these subordinate units came under it, it became rather ungainly and unmanageable due to size. It would take some SERIOUS leadership from the services to prevent VA Pt2 from eclipsing the mistakes and errors of VA pt1.

The fox is guarding the hen house, their kingdom. It's obvious that some VA Centers are more concerned about fudging the truth than helping the veterans in a timely manner.

And Sir in each of those cases, in a perfect world, the administrators, the doctors responsible, and clerks involved would all be looking at lengthy jail terms, civil suits till we get mullets and afros back in style, and zero chances that any doctor involved would have a change to get a medical license to work on the bark on a tree. Now real life intervenes and screws all that up, and I still don't have my afro.

SSG Warren Swan - You are very right. As far as I am concerned, the 300,000 who died waiting for an appointment were victims of genocide. Let that sink in. The very organization that is supposed to be steep in helping veterans have committed genocide.
