HOA's evicting patriotic owners and tenants flying "Old Glory"

Every so often, we hear in the news that some HOA or management organization either threatens to evict, or fine an owner or a tenant who tries to fly "Old Glory" or support the troops.
We sacrificed a lot for our Flag, our Nation, and our Freedoms. But, we continue to send aid to those who, in a good day, would burn our Flag.
Your opinions? Please keep it clean.

You can decide to live by the HOA or live somewhere else. It's your choice.

You signed the HOA and agreed to abide by it...if it changes after you've lived somewhere, you should be grandfathered.

While I think it is wrong as well, it's just wrong, if you move into any housing area that is governed by a HOA or some other community rules, then you can not bitch and complain about it afterwards. Ensure you know the bylaws and community rules and abide by them, or move.

While I agree with your opinion, playing devil's advocate here, what happens when everywhere you move has an HOA, and you cannot find one that agrees with your values?

I know that you should read your bylaws, and what is harder, understand them, and participate of the community meetings. But what happens when those bylaws violate your Constitutional rights?

I would say it's time to move. Living in a home that doesn't fall under HOA bylaws is usually no problem. Of course HOAs do tend to aid in keeping the real estate value of an at it's higher potential. It's a choice that had to be made. Hang old glory out back, inside, or take her down. We all face choices. You'd have to ask yourself what's more important.

Unfortunately there have been many lawsuits filed by and against HOA, and they have almost always gone the way of the HOA...I agree that my constitutional right to Free Speech should not be trampled on, but just as with being a Soldier, if you belong to a HOA you give up a little of your rights for the opportunity to be a member. So it really comes down to individual choice, living in a community governed by a restrictive HOA or living in a community that does not have a HOA.

There should never be a HOA that would prohibit the "proper" flying of a flag of this nation. Now, I can see that there might be restrictions (such as, not flying a 30x50 flag, not having a 50' pole etc), but tastefully done, and properly flown, there is not much better.

My opinion? Ridiculous. Wrong.
This is one of those relatively rare situations that I would actually argue for taking them to to the press. Give the HOA as much bad publicity as you can and see if you can shame them into changing.
