The VA doesn't have unlimited resources to give anyone whatever type of eyeglasses they want. They provide eyeglasses that meet your visual needs, but anything above that comes at the member's expense.

Thanks LTC. K but what about us lowlife enlisted men do we just do without if we can't afford better glasses. Thank you for the support.

PVT Simon Menchaca - He wouldn't have to do without glasses; he just wouldn't have the better frames that he preferred. There's a big difference.

SGT Lorenzo Nieto - I deleted your comment. Avoid the insults. That's against RP discussion conduct guidelines.

My wife chose from the selectin they had, I would like to have gotten Titanium Frames for the durability but they did give me the lighter weight lenses at no charge.
At least they aren't giving you those old Black Frame Birth Control Glasses they use to give when I was on Active Duty, talk about ugly frames!!!

SP5 Peter Keane - Pink frames in the military sounds funny so I had to look it up. But yeah, apparently, those frames were made from a material called zylonite, which was a popular choice at the time because it was super durable and lightweight. You really do learn something new every day!

SSgt Dick Foster - How in the world did you convince the doctor to prescribe photogray as medically necessary? That's the part of the story you left out because the VA does not cover photogray unless the doctor prescribes it is medically required -- otherwise it is one of the options that you can choose to pay for, just like the designer frames that SGT Lorenzo Nieto was complaining about paying for.

MSG Thomas Currie My eyes have always been super sensative to bright light. As blue eyes typically are. I went in with photogray, progressive lenses so that's what they gave me. BTW the last time I bought glasses out of pocket from a regular optomistrist they ran over $700 so I was happy to get what they gave me. Also I have found the VA optometrists to be the best in the business. At least the ones I've seen so far have been, and I was once in the aviation business were good eyesight is highly stressed.

SSgt Dick Foster - the same here & last year, they gave me yellow-lensed, full prescription, night driving glasses. Free. I love them.

SGT Lorenzo Nieto - Talking out of my butt because you do not agree? Too many Vets get out with the thought that because they served or in your case "already paid for it with my life" that the government owes you everything you want. This thought process damages vets left and right. You deserve a pair of glasses that will last long enough until the VA will replace them. None deserve to be placed on a pedestal higher than the people we serve.

SGT Lorenzo Nieto - You can keep being angry with me but the reality remains the same, you have the glasses the VA is going to give you unless you pay more.
