ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – There was a security alert Wednesday about license plates stolen at a South County military recruiting office.
They were U.S. government plates stolen over the weekend from one of the unmarked cars recruiters use to drive new soldiers, marines, and sailors wherever they may need to go complete the recruitment process.
There are Army, Navy, and Marine recruiting offices in the Armed Forces Recruiting Center building near Lindbergh and Baptist Church Road.
The alert includes the plate number: G13 6270 I. There’s also a message detailing the crime saying, “Please provide this information to … personnel manning security checkpoints … in the event a vehicle tried to gain access using the stolen license plates.”
The theft comes in the wake of 4 Marines and a Sailor being shot to death at a recruiting station and a Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last month.
Civilians then stood guard at recruiting centers from Wentzville to Texas, demanding recruiters be allowed to carry weapons to protect themselves.
St. Louis County Police were posted at the South County recruiting center for a few days following the Tennessee shootings.
Stealing government license plates these days is nothing to take lightly.
Both St. Louis City and County police confirmed they received the alert Wednesday.
Judging from the wording, it seems to have gone out to government and military installations, as well. Government and military sources have yet to confirm that is the case.
