Is the Airborne salute still a thing amongst paratroopers?

I remember it was quite the thing around the time that six gun or six-shooter, not remember for sure his handle, was CG of the XVIII Corps.

You mean the regular hand salute that turns into the fluttering fingers like a canopy blowing in the breeze?

I believe you are referring to the Gunfighter, that carried a six-gun. He was the 82nd commander when I got to Fort Bragg in 76. I am not sure of the Airborne Salute you are referring to.

Starts as a regular salute, but when you drop it you make your palm in the shape of a canopy and fingers are shrouds and it floats down. I have been racking my brain, does Emerson sound familiar?

Is that where you slap you hand on your leg at the end? They did that in Airborne School, but I haven't seen it anywhere else.
