SEOUL, South Korea — Damian Barbee was a model soldier, a highly decorated Ranger with nearly a dozen awards for valor and ribbons recognizing his overseas service.

His story was too good to be true.

In May, the former senior noncommissioned officer was found guilty of lying about items on his service record, including claims he earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Master Parachutist Badge and a valor device on his Army Commendation Medal. Even his Ranger tab was fake.

In addition to being court-martialed for seven false claims of wearing decorations and badges, Barbee also lied to investigators, telling one official he had been awarded the Combat Action Badge in 2002, producing a falsified document as proof.

I'm gonna get busted now...I got my SF tab in 95 for Special Foods, after attending JFK school of culinary warfare. Q course was a bitch being that I had to make a special Quiche that the CG wanted freshly whipped with real eggs. I went through RIP where I was taught how to properly survey and cook terrorist cows with my bare hands, bubble gum, and 550 cord. Got pretty good at it too. After graduating Ranger school, I was the undistinguished graduate, got my shitbag tab put below my Special Foods tab. It was an honor to have the Commandant of the Navy Special Amphip cooking SEAL 16 Team personally pin me. Knowing there was another fat f*cker out there who appreciated good T-rats warmed my heart. Airborne school was cake....all I had to do was complete five jumps and make a different bunt cake on each one. I thought it's be harder with the night jump, but I put some cat eyes on the pan and it came out great. Now I understand why they kept the helmet with the cherry on it for me. Later on I was requested by LTC Mathis by name for my deadly culinary skills. I amazed him so much on the Marine Corps birthday on 14June1775, he skipped the use of the sword to cut the cake. He pulled out two extremely sharp knife hands and after the SgtMaj used his laser eyes to warm the room, LTC Mathis used those knife hands to cut the cake in perfect 2x2 squares. I've gotten two purple eye sockets with no valor from a bad night in Taiwan, three Joint No Achievement Medals, I think five CAB's...they were all yellow I think. My no conduct ribbon, All Army gimmie in OSUT medal. I know this one because it looks like my spice rack. and countless other awards to include the Presidential Medal of Culinary Screw ups. I got that one awarded in the porta potty on JBad. I got three bolo badges, my pizza delivery driver tab, expert taco bell, and marksman toiletbowl. Aim wasn't so good on that range. I guess you could say I'm kinda a big deal. My most favorite award was the Trump Hairpiece award. I got this presented to me by The Don for selfless service in the face of harrowing danger and multiple flying classified emails from Hillary Clinton. Yeah I'm a Hero's Hero!

I guess that in some cases people get away with it because no one questions the 1st sergeant or the brigade commander. You just assume that he probably did earn all of that stuff.

I don't understand how they manage to get away with it. After Nam,I was assigned to Fort Bragg. I lived off post, but I had to check in every day and keep a footlocker for inspections. Becoming something I'm not, never crossed my mind. I call them, "Those who want to be but never were, and never could be."
