SSG Broadbent,

Why are you referring to female Soldiers as 'chicks'? Is THAT what 'right sounds like'?

And who made YOU the morality police of a female 'looking feminine'? What does that even mean?
SSG Martin,

Making excuses doesn't change the fact that a professional Soldier, whether you agree with a hair-style or not, was talked about unprofessionally by an NCO.

You may think I am wrong for my opinion, and use of the word "chicks" in a generalized statement, which last I knew was not unauthorized, illegal, unethical or immoral and most of all unprofessional. And it did not address one person in particular. This one "professional Soldier" whom you speak of being talked about "unprofessionally", really? It is hard to speak about one person when it was not ONE PERSON that was addressed. If it is illegal etc to say "chicks", please show me where that is stated... But what is most bewildering is that you are still dwelling on that. Of all that has been addressed here, your biggest issue is me having used the word "chicks"? And I was told I dwell petty things...?

It's that "If it is illegal etc to say "chicks", please show me where that is stated" attitude that's most disturbing.

Although you changed the initial post from 'chicks' to 'females', you still seem unfazed by using the 'chicks' by questioning where it says you cannot.

SSG Broadbent, I feel you've received some sound advice, especially from SFC MacRoberts, that you should take to heart.

All the best.

SSG Broadbent,

I find it interesting that some don't consider this to be an extreme hairstyle. When I was in BCT in 2011, a DS told us that females aren't allowed to have hairstyles resembling that of males because they're too extreme.

Aside from the extreme aspect, I feel that not being able to tell a male from a female could cause problems in several ways.

Thanks, SSG Broadbent, but I was referring to the hairstyle of the female you mentioned seeing, not my own. My hair isn't the least bit short. It's halfway down my back, but it looks short in my pic because I keep it in a very tight bun.

On an off topic note, once you leave the military, you see these kinds of issues as kind of humorous.....

Christians have the Bible, Muslims have the Koran, Jews have the Torah, and Soldiers have AR 670-1.
