Most EOD Techs I have met or worked with universally despise the film. None I have met were Cowboys. To a man, they were Precise, Detail oriented, thorough, professionals who I counted on. They all gave me great advice on everything from UXOs to Soldier issues.

Most people who were battle space owners, that worked with EOD hate this film as it portrays a 4 man team running around Iraq all by their lonesome.

I only had passing contact with USAF and Army EOD in three deployments, neutral assessment. I knew EOD Officers in CLC3, one was a stud and someone I looked up to a lot.
My primary basis for my opinion was the EOD Program NCOs at Picatinny 2012-14. The Senior Tech was a former 1SG E8. He often covered down for my CSM when she was away. His NCOs were top notch. They also did emergency response on the Arsenal. They helped me make tough calls. I had nothing but trust with them. They were also team players who came to our assistance with nothing more than a phone call.

No. I know a few of every service (as in a fair number), and while some of the situations had a ring of truth to them, a "Hero" attitude from a team leader as portrayed by Jeremy Renner would first lose support of his team, and second wind up dead from doing stupid shit like that. That's not how EOD trains from what I understand. ;-)

It came from Hollyweird, they have no clue what teamwork under fire looks like. Three of us from JIEDDO were invited to sit in on a screening with the producers and director before it won the Academy Awards and expressed our opinions. It was not a documentary or a training film it was entertainment.
