I have been watching the National Geographic Channels "Battleground Afghanistan" and comparing it to what Vietnam was like.
Is this a fair representation of operations over there?
Or are we looking through some "lens"?

I have only seen part of one episode. It was edited but accurate in what they did show.

SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. - having been opcon'd to USMC while in Iraq, I suggest you isten carefully what's not said. If you've been deployed, you know that's just as important than what is said or the dialogue.

Maj (then Capt) Ben Middendorf trained me at The Basic School. Tough but fair.

I have not seen any episodes, so I can't say how accurate they are. I will try to catch it and see. What you saw and did there depends on where you were. In my year in Farah Province, I was in six gunfights and one IED. Guys in the Korengal, or Helmand Province saw that much action in a day. People assigned to Camp Phoenix or Bagram probably never saw any action. It also got more violent after 2009.

MAJ Ron Peery I saw both of the Korengal documentaries and as far as what I saw it was just like "back in the day". Slight difference in geography, uniforms and gooks ..
