No, it doesn't. It is well known that I am a veteran because of the decorations and ornaments on my desk, but I don't talk about my service often. My skills, experience, and leadership is what helped me move through the ranks. I tend to not use my military service, but rather, what I have learned during my service as a backbone.

I also let my current skills, experience and leadership assist me with navigating and accelerating advancement in my current career, however, most of that came from my experiences as a leader in the military. I don't boast about it or even say, "I'm this way because of the military," it's shows through my performance. So I in turn, say yes my military experience has helped in my success outside of the service. I'll never apologize for serving or the valuable leadership and experience I gained from the military that makes me believe I can handle any situation that comes my way, even those in corporate America.

There really is no advancement in my current company.

But I did have to drop most of the military leadership stuff off my resume before I even started getting calls.......no one want to hire their replacement or a retiree.....sad but true.....best advise you can give anyone who is getting out before retirement age is FINISH A DEGREE ......it is NOT OPTIONAL if you want to maintain the lifestyle you are use to being a military member.

It made a difference between me and a Harvard Grad. He refused to go into a Bar and ask a guy for his keys of his truck when the guy was 3 pmts past due. I said I would and I got the keys and the guy apologized for being late.
