A student in Georgia who went into hiding after bringing a gun to Valdosta State University’s campus following a protest in which he stomped on an American flag was found and arrested in Florida.
Eric Sheppard reportedly went into hiding after authorities found a gun inside of Sheppard’s backpack on campus in late April. Earlier that month, Sheppard made news for stepping on an American flag during a protest on the Georgia School’s campus. The protest went viral after video of veteran Michelle Mahart was detained for trying to take the flag from Sheppard’s fellow protesters.
In a video, posted below, Sheppard explained his reasons behind stepping on the flag, saying that it represents “white supremacy racism which is plaguing the entire earth, so when we step on that flag we are stepping on racism, white supremacy.”
“We are stepping on the things that were erected alongside our genocide and our holocaust,” he said.
According to reports, U.S. Marshals took Sheppard into custody on Thursday morning in Tampa without incident. He is currently being held at Hillsborough County Jail, and is scheduled for an extradition hearing before ultimately being sent back to Valdosta.

This guy is a douchebag, even if he was exercising his free speech rights to promote his misguided cause.
Stomping a Confederate Flag would at least have made sense, but wouldn't have drawn the same attention.

Arrested for what? Detained by the Marshals service would seem to imply he skipped on a court date or some other judicial infraction?

Detained by the Marshals service might also imply that he was a fugitive with federal charges, in which case he'd be in even bigger trouble for being in possession of a firearm.

SPC Eric Cunningham
I was tracking he was wanted for a gun found on a college campus linked to him - gun free zone and all that

Genocide and holocaust? Strong words from a young student who likely does not have ANY experience with death and murder on those scales. If he truly believes what he is saying, he needs to gain some perspective. Go visit Darfur, Rwanda, Bosnia. He is spitting in the face of those who have had everything taken from them. Their homes, their families, their freedom, their dignity. The murder and humiliation of millions, the starvation of millions, the displacement of millions. And here he sits saying that this ethnic group in this country is being subjected to genocide and a holocaust. Makes me sick.
