What are the chances of getting a tattoo waiver for a hand tattoo for the Army or Air National Guard?

Chances are not good since you have it on your hand and it is that big.....be prepared to be told it was denied. Only tats on the hands that are allowed are ring tattoos

Given the current climate, not good. Waivers are always harder to get when the need for new recruits is lower and easier to get when they need more people.

Thank you. Do you know when is a good time to apply for a better chance. I know they probably not going to care but I had to cover up a permanent burn scar

you could try national guard or reserves, they sometimes are less strict on granting waivers and then if you get in you can try going active duty from there. Doesn't hurt to try. the worst that can happen is they turn you down and you are no worse off than you are now.

I am not sure now but when I was a Recruiting Station Commander, before I retired in 2000, The tattoo policies were very strict. No tattoos on the hands neck or face, etc. If it would detract from the Class A uniform when worn, then you couldn't join. I know that there have been a lot of changes in the military code through the years since my retirement but I still think that the uniform pride and ethics of the military still rank high and will never be diminished. The wearing of the uniform is, was, and always will be a tradition of the Army that makes a soldier walk proud.
