Hey, I’ve been in the army National guard for 10 years (traditional guardsmen). My ETS date is September 2021. I would like to re-enlist into a new MOS. When would be the right time to start the process of re-enlisting into a new MOS? And what are some curveballs I should BOLO for?

Talk to your Retention NCO. Right about the time your window opens...which should be 1 year prior to ETS. As for curveballs for a new MOS...that's going to be: Do you qualify; Does the State have slots; Will the State pay for it; How soon can you get a class seat. etc..

This sounds like the right thing to do. I am retired Active Army but I dealt with a lot of National Guard Recruiters in recruiting before I retired. We would give contracts to each other if we could not fill the person's desire in our service. I got to know how they worked and this pretty much states it all.

You can put that into motion 12 months prior to your ETS. So, see your reenlistment NCO now.

You can also look into going into the Reserves as well SGT (Join to see) . Nothing says you can't switch.
