I have been in the military for almost 6 years. I only have 5 awards currently, but just found out I will be recieving the ARCOM soon for all the military funeral honors I have performed. It will be my most memorable award. What award is your most memorable? Why?

My Purple Heart from 2005. Aside from a sizeable scar and occasional residual pain I'm all good now but it was a close, close call. As the doc in the CASH told me, "If that IED had gone off half a second earlier it would have cut you in two." To which I replied, "If it had gone off half a second later it would have missed me completely."
I've since become a bit more glass-half-full kinda guy.

Ain't that the truth, sir.
Sometimes it is the near misses that scare you more than the direct hits.

CAPT Hiram Patterson
When I was in Iraq in 05-06 with a Marine civil affairs unit our replacement unit came in. At one of our team locations the new team leader wanted to take a look outside the wire around the area. Several Humvees were driving around and an IED (two 130 mm shells wired together) went off under the rear wheels of one of them blowing it in half. Several riders were injured including it least one blown out of the vehicle. Fortunately none serious and no fatalities. If that IED had detonated under the forward wheels the passengers may have all been KIA. I have photos that our corpsman on scene took.

My Purple Heart. I'm reminded of that medal everyday I look at my stumps for legs and of the day I lost them.

I was much more fortunate, SFC Joseph James. How have you adjusted to the changes? I am inspired every time I speak to one of my more severely wounded brothers. It reminds me of what is important.
