How is Fort Carson? I received orders to report to Carson as my first duty station! How are the barracks? How is the defac? How is it during covid?

Best place if you're outdoorsy, barracks are fine. Off post housing is expensive, but a goldmine if you buy. Tons of fun to be had in the area.
4ID loves to be in the field.
Hospital is.....OK, def not the best in terms of Army hospitals.
Aside from the unit, the area rivals Fort Campbell in terms of greatness, as in they're the top 2 posts....but Campbell has a better unit.

Barracks are fine, depending upon what brigade you're in. DFACs here were really nice pre COVID, now they aren't bad, just all to go plates and maintaining 6 foot distance

I have never had bug problems of any kind at Carson/Piñon Canyon

My unit did, I don’t know the cactus location, there was running streams that we slogged through . Set up camp and a few got ticks.
