So a few soldiers have been talking about Frocking to 1SG. I don't know anything about this since i have never seen it at my last unit.

SFC (P) can can get frocked to 1SG. This usually happens in Combat Arms because they need to get MOSQd. So the BCT CSM usually take newly promotable/promoted to be 1SGs. Others, like mine (31B) have new MSGs be Operations Sergeants in BN HQs. I was lucky and was given the HHC BCT 1SG position and didn't have to do Operations time before my leadership time.

Interesting, folks don’t get frock to 1SG. They are selected and assigned to the position of Company 1SG. If the Soldier is MSG then He/She wears the Diamond, simple.
Now, frocking is authorized under AR 614-200, para 7 (4) for USASMC Graduates.
Also, AR 600-8-19, para 7 (10), authorizes froking for NG Senior Enlisted under some circumstances.
Besides that, I’m unaware of other enlisted frocking instances. But I could wrong.

MAJ Ronnie Reams - Sir, big Army doesn't do "Company Corporals" any more. If you see a CPL nowadays, they have orders for the rank so they keep it when they PCS. Back when it was hard to get SGT (99-00), I got a couple of my SPC (P)s laterally promoted to CPL.

I can't speak to what is going on these days as I've been retired for 22+ years, but in the summer of 1990 I was assigned to an airborne signal battalion as a promotable SFC. The battalion commander frocked me to 1SG the morning just before I took over a company first sergeant position. Two days later we were alerted for immediate deployment to Saudi Arabia as part of the lead elements into Desert Shield. Talk about learning the job on the run!!

Yes CSM William Crain, in days now gone, commanders use to do/request even more unorthodox enlisted frocking promotions. Nowadays... USASMC graduates for sure.
