My oldsmobile is being restored in Southern California.

The engine has a rod or main bearing knock. We want to switch out the 400 big block with a 455 since it is more common. We do not have a core in trade.

I know about Mondello Oldsmobile Engines but I do not want to spend $7 grand. I just want a basic rebuild so I can sell it. I have tried a google search and the links I found want my core. I just thought you here on RP may know some reputable businesses who can help.

LTC (Join to see) there is several people here on RP who would be able to provide you information. Someone is rebuilding a Corvette; although, I cannot remember who it is at the moment. I hope you get some responses! I agree with GySgt Gary Cordeiro, junkyards are great places to find parts!
When I remember who rebuilds cars, I’ll message you!
Nice looking car!

Tear it down and look it over. If the heads are good it will save you money. Check the bare block over, magnaflux for cracks. What’s left is the rotating mechanism. That is cheaper than buying a complete engine.
If the engine is no good, look at junkyards. I have bought hi performance engines for the price of a stock engine.

The reason for rebuilding your engine is to keep it numbers matching, higher value.

GySgt Gary Cordeiro This car came with a 330 V8 310 HP. I bought a Olds Big block in 1984. It sat for 17 year. It ran 14.23-14.30s at the drags at 99 mph..I replaced the 2 speed and put a Turbo 350 trans. It has a 3.31 gear 12 bolt posi Chevy rear end..it is not stock.

Go with a big block Chevy, it will mate nicely with the TH 350, you need a torque monster to move that tank.

GySgt Gary Cordeiro I may take your advice and get the crank kit. The engine has good heads and maybe 50k miles on the rebuild. It has a double-roller timing chain and steel gears. We were just trying to save time putting a basic rebuilt.

I don't know how much they cost because you have to get it from an authorized dealer/garage. Last I checked the website does not list any prices. Check out Jasper Engines and Transmissions out of Jasper Indiana. Where you might get killed is on shipping charges!

Why not just sell it as is and let someone else bother with it? Me personally, if I were putting in a new engine it would be because I plan to keep it. You may not be able to recover what it cost to get the overhaul. My $0.02 for what it is worth.
