17C is an application MOS, but can you reclass to 17C through the Army training reenlistment option?

Yes. Once you have an approved application. It’s an application MOS. You have to submit an application and get approved. Just like Ranger Regiment, SF, and 160th have selections, you have to be accepted to go there, there’s no such thing as re-enlisting for something you’re not qualified for.

SPC (Join to see) I don’t know because I’ve never seen anyone get selected. But I’ve heard they prefer people with programming language experience. I’ve had several people who were pursuing degrees in computer science who were rejected. I would suggest if you don’t have experience, take classes specifically in coding. Most people recommend Python as a good start.

I can code in c++ , python, and java . That doesn’t make sense that the people pursuing the degree don’t get selected. In university they taught us how to program . I literally have 7 months left before I get my cs degree but I want to apply beforehand. SFC (Join to see)

SPC (Join to see) that’s probably because their degree was in computer science but they hadn’t gotten far in it. If you’ve got all those classes and experience, I have faith you will get selected.

Apply, get selected, re-enlist and await a PCS date. It’s a small community so chances are if there are attempts to “out maneuver” the system their name will become well known.
In terms of getting selected, make yourself stand out with experience, education, training, certifications, etc. This isn’t one of those “we’ll take anyone and train them” MOS’s. JCAC, Phase 2, and the clearance take a lot of time and money that the Army is willing to put into those that they deem a good investment.

LTC Jason Mackay it’s a VERY competitive application. I’ve never had a Soldier accepted into yet.
