I have a phone appointment with my assignment manager for tomorrow morning (evening for me) where I will likely be given assignment instructions. My DEROS is 8 Jan 2021, and I want to leave the country ~60 days early.

Can someone explain the process for requesting a curtailment? Who is the approval authority? I looked through some regs but wasn't able to locate a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance.

Your assignment manager will give you a report date of February, the report date always has to be at least the month after your DEROS.
A. You can ask your branch manager to curtail your tour 90 days so that you can report in November. That might be pushing it because that’s less than 60 days away, and how far and why you are able to curtail is up to how it benefits the Army and the mission. Don’t hurt to ask though
B. You ask for your orders to be authorized 60 days early report. When you turn in your leave form your MPD will adjust your DEROS to the day prior to you flying out.

I hadn't thought about option B. Thanks, Jason!
