I'm set to retire September of next year and I'm working on getting certified to teach NJROTC. Since schools start in August, would I be able to double-dip since I'd technically still be active duty, would the school have to treat it as an internship and not pay me until I'm actually retired, or am I just screwed?

Thanks. I'm about halfway through all of the paperwork. I just hope my official retirement in September won't screw me out of a job until the following year.

CPO (Join to see) - I'd initiate the process as if it will work out. These slots are competitive and usually go fast for a specific area. If you don't care where you teach, then there is no urgency. People retire and occupy a slot at 45-50 years old and are there until they retire.

If it works like AJROTC your packet is good for 3 years, so nothing would be wasted effort.

If you have the leave to cover it and Navy Cadet Command doesn't have a rule against it, you should be ok

I contacted the regional office about you still being active and they said you must be retired.

Wanted to post an update. I got in contact with the area manager. Apparently you can be on active duty while on terminal leave as a NJROTC teacher. You will continue receiving your active duty pay and allowances while receiving your teacher's salary. So they can bring you on full time and start your teaching clock while on active duty and double dip.

The school would have cover it with no reimbursement until officially retired. Some districts will just cover it and some will say they will only cover half since they are not getting reimbursement and you’ll be paid half since you’re still technically on active duty.
