It can be done. My platoon guidon bearer was a Pick-up and went from 350 lbs to 167 lbs - with 6 weeks in the Pork Chop Platoon. The crazy thing? Once he lost the weight this guy could run like a deer - sub-18 three miles. But he lost so much weight he had no upper body strength and graduated Parris Island without being able to do a single pull-up on final PFT. He hung on the pull up bar until his hands dripped blood. The SDI had to stand in front of him and order him from the bar - and told him to his face that no one had ever wanted the Corps that much. "He would be a Marine." Then, and only then, did he drop from the bar.
