I know, everyone has seen me post a lot about this. So bare with me.

I’m coming up to my re enlistment window. And I’m thinking of going to Ft bragg, NC. Cause my family is from SC. However!! I’ve got the support of my family now to peruse this option.
A couple of questions... (maybe someone knows or knows of someone who has done this)

So if I can search for nearby universities around Ft Bragg, and can get accepted into their ROTC program. Could I use my BAH for on post housing, I know housing is privatized. So id like to think they wouldn’t care as much.

Also, has anyone known if their service member applying and what challenges did he/she face.

All advice is welcome both good and bad.

SGT (Join to see) Privatized housing piece. The installation has to be in the waterfall or cascade plan, where soldiers have not/will not take quarters and the other 8 categories of authorized tenants open up. Best bet is to call the housing office at Bragg and see where they are at. Civilian rent is levied at a different rate than your prior grade. Ask what that would be so you can make an informed decision. It is usually higher than enlisted, but lower than officer BAH. At the end of the day it is up to the GC, Private Partner, and the ground lease agreement HQDA entered into with the private partner. Also understand your lease termination, they may be able to bump you if the housing situation changes where they need those quarters back for a soldier, especially for an EFMP family they need to modify, or the quarters have been modified previously.

Also be advised that you may not draw BAH at points where school is not in session. I would sit down with a VA benefits advisor to ensure you are getting what you think you are getting.

Edit: I did not realize the Active Duty Option part until I went back and read again, I'd still call the privatized housing office and see what you are looking at. I don't know if they would put you in E5 quarters after you are accepted or what. Call And ask.

Green to Gold Active Duty Option is a commissioning program that uses Army ROTC while the soldier stays on active duty. Basic Allowance for Housing BAH is an allowance you can draw while drawing the post 9/11 GI Bill or for Active Duty personnel that do not live in the barracks.
