Here is a situation - &nbsp;I want to see what others have to say about it.<div><br></div><div>Newly promoted NCO (November 2013) who has not attended WLC yet. No issues with the NCO and no reason to not send them to WLC except horrible timing.</div><div><br></div><div>Your unit has been tasked to support another BCT in JRTC from 1-30 March. You are short handed and need to take the NCO to JRTC. You don't have any replacements and in order to support the units above you this NCO has to go with. He is part of a 4 man team and if 1 Soldier in the team drops out that team cannot be used. 6 full teams have been requested for the rotation.</div><div><br></div><div>NCO comes down on orders for Korea with a 10 June report date. NCO wants to take 30 days of PCS leave and needs about 15-20 days to clear. Approximate clearing date is 20 April.</div><div><br></div><div>WLC dates are 26 March to 25 April and 7 May to 7 June. The NCO will not be able to attend the March class due to JRTC or the May class due to clearing and PCS leave.</div><div><br></div><div>What are the options?</div><div><br></div><div>Contact branch manager and have the report date deferred to give the NCO a chance to attend WLC?</div><div><br></div><div>Work with the gaining unit in Korea to schedule a WLC class?</div><div><br></div><div>Send him to WLC instead of JRTC and possibly fail the mission due to one team being down?</div><div><br></div><div>Different ways to approach this issue but I am looking for thoughts from others. Professional education is important but so is the mission you were tasked with.</div>

1SG - Have you asked your sister BNs for assistance in supporting the CTC rotation with an NCO.  Perhaps that could open some doors and network some options to accomplish your missions, by meeting the intent to support and allowing that SGT to attend WLC.  I am not sure if they still have an NCOA in Korea, but as long as this SGTs counseling packet is complete, their new leadership should ensure they attend NCOES as required.  As a SGT, no matter his duty station, they should be a priority to attend WLC if nothing else works out for you.  I would also say the success of that CTC rotation isn't on the shoulders of that recently promoted SGT.

We are working with out sister Battalion but word is slow. JRTC success doesn't rely on 1 NCO but we only have 6 crews for the rotation and we have to put up 6 aircraft. We take him out of the mix without a replacement and we go down to 5 crews which hurts the overall mission.

So you need a CE?  Hmmm...1SG, if I had any, I would be there to support, or at least offer if my command supported.  I am in the same boat, supporting with my 15S with the sister CAV unit with their upcoming JRTC rotation.

I know I wish I could snap my fingers and it all worked out. Of course if it was that easy everyone would join the military. LOL.

1SG I dont know what kind of relationship you may have with 1SG Whelan or 1SG Green over here at Division but I will tell you that since we just got back from deployment most of us will be on leave but A LOT of the rear d guys will be here and they wont be doing a whole lot besides taking the 4 day weekends in March and working pretty much half days between the 4 days. I wish I could volunteer but my WLC is 26 March as well and I have AA right after that...

By the way SFC Edwards is stand-in 1SG for 101st HHB I&S Co right now taking 1SG Whelan's place until leave is over with. In case you want to pursue for the extra hands...

I would send the NCO to WLC instead of JRTC.  I ran into a similar problem and we ended up getting personnel (crewchiefs especially) from another company to back fill us so we could operate at NTC.  Then when it was their turn to go to JRTC, we backfilled them because they had personnel to send to schools as well.  More of a team effort.
I just couldn't bring myself to put a Soldier's career on hold to support a training event. Only my opinion and I am very interested to see ways others would handle it.

The only issue we are the only Black hawk unit in the BN (minus the MEDEVAC = very hard sell) - so looking for another 15T has to come from another Battalion. Inter-Battalion request would be so much easier.

One of the many downfalls of being in a GSAB. I am confident if you seek out the assault battalion they will find someone for you. Plenty of young eager SGTs that need bullets for their NCOERs and possibly awards.

RFI is out but initial results are not good. I am hoping HRC can back up his report date. Our Battalion has had at least 4-5 Soldiers who came down on orders with 5 months or less from notification to report date. Very frustrating when you are asking a Soldier to pick up an move across the world.

I feel your pain, I am expected to lose about 75% of my company when we get back from deployment in a few months.  They are already talking about a training center rotation we have to support 120 days after we get back.  Not sure how I am going to make that happen.  The only inbounds to rear-d are brand new, never progressed 15T's.  With the limited flying hours these days, there is no feasible way to progress them in time.  I will be begging and borrowing when the time comes.

Hopefully you have built a good raport with your fellow 1SGs there at Campbell and will be able to work something out.

1SG,

A lot of options, I will tell you I am in Korea and my companies training room NCO. They have seats available for WLC. They are trying to make us push through all of our SPC. We have Soldiers that came from AIT as a SPC and they want us to send them to WLC. If you would like let me know after the holiday weekend I can get you the school house info.

I figured Korea would have open slots he could jump right into but I do not want to push this NCO out the door without getting it on this end. I think it would send the wrong message to a junior NCO.
