NY Times published a report July, 2014 posing the following question:
"What would the American military look like if we could start from scratch?"
It had me wondering if (and how) my fellow service members would like to see a redesigned U.S. Military Force.

Well, I'd probably consolidate the branches for starters. Merge the Marines into the Navy and the Air Force back into the Army. Beyond that, the most optimal force depends on the style of conflict (conventional vs asymmetric).

Interesting.. I think with your concept it would make more sense to break down the Marines in to their respective groups (Air Wing/Air Force) (Ground Troops/Army).. Or like the other, more popular thread (Army/Marines)... But as a Marine, I sure like the idea of having a separate entity that remains more versatile.

For starters, we need to revitalize the institution of the Constitutional Militia. It is likely the only national defense strategy that could effectively handle an actual invasion of the United States.
