What is the purpose of the RallyPoint "Voting UP/DOWN" options for responses?

I first saw the Voting option as a way to agree or disagree with the comment or response made, but it appears to be more of a popularity vote.

I think it should be used as either agreeing with, or disagreeing with the comment, and by seeing how many vote whichever way, later readers could make their decision as to which comments are valuable and which are not.

Or is it even useful in any version?

Sir,

One of the other issues that some have seen and experienced with the voting is that some members have used it as a weapon of retaliation for some that has disagreed with them via comment or post.

That is why many of us have mentioned it numerous times before that the system needs to be adjusted to make it that you can't vote either way with out attaching a comment to the vote, that way if you do receive a down vote you can have a viable comment or explanation as to why and not just an anonymous negative, the same goes for the up vote, let someone know why you think their post or comment is good and worthy of a positive vote from you as a member.

SFC Baber, that is my concern. It seems that it could become vindictive rather than useful.

The ONLY thing I see this option is good for is to allow people to stalk you and down vote every single thread you do as this happened to me by several who got bent about my voicing my opinion about them thinking that all who disagree with them should shame themselves and are a disgrace to the uniform. Haters will be haters will be haters, I am not here for a popularity contest, but rather to be heard and have fun when fun is due.
