I PCS January 2nd and I already have cleared post because of the holidays falling in the middle of the week. Do I have to stay here until then or can I sign out after the “duty day” of New Years? I really don’t want to hang around in an empty house.

You need to sign out on the day it says on your approved DA31. I understand the common sense aspect of your question. I'd recommend engaging your chain of command to see if you can sign out early and have the appropriate call to staff duty holding your DA31.

I agree with the others. Duty status includes time and location. I assume you did not get Permissive TDY. One of your enemies to changing status is the holiday season.
