SPC, if you have a BSN, and you hold the RN, you can be commissioned directly in the ANC; go get a copy of AR 135-100 and go to the HRC web page for Officer Appointments branch - you can get all the 'paperwork' you need. Basically, the application for appointment, a valid physical, a security clearance (secret will do), a GT of 110 or higher on the ASVAB, meet ht/wt IAW AR 600-9, pass your PFT, have your Commander's endorsement, and it is open & shut. I am in global and am at MEDCOM, so if you need a mentor - I can put you in touch with any number of ANC officers who would be glad to assist. Have a great Army day . . .

Army or Air Force. I am surprised that you enlisted with a BSN? Have you taken
the NCLEX? Do you still possess a valid RN License? The Army offers Direct
Appointments into the Nurse Corps for Soldiers and Civilians who possess both a
BSN and RN regardless of experience. Maj. Nelson is correct, the Army also
starts all Nurses as 2LTs and Med Surge until they have completed their first
year or get promoted to 1LT. But the AMED recruiter can offer you a guaranteed
AOC School, usually ICU, Psyche Nurse, Community Health, or OB/GYN Nursing. You
have to ask for ER and get some time in the Nurse Corps before you can apply to
be a FNP or any NP programs that offer Masters, etc. </font></p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">

Well, yes and no. The AMEDD USUALLY starts newly accessed ANC officers at 2LT and USUALLY in med/surg.....HOWEVER, that is not always the case. A recruit who has practical experience in a specialty area can get constructive credit for their practical work experience. They can also get a higher starting rank for graduate degrees (1LT for a masters and CPT for a doctorate). And if they are already in a specialty area, and particularly if they hold national certification in that area, they can by-pass entirely med-surg and be grandfathered the specialty MOS or ASI. I've known ER nurses who've worked in the field for a while who came in as CPTs with the M5 (ER nurse) ASI.

And I've seen soldiers come into the Army with advanced degrees because they had an unscrupulous (or really misinformed) recruiter. When I was at Benning, I met an E-4 who was an MD, wanted to be an Army physician, and went to a regular recruiter who told him if he enlisted as a medic, it would help him get a commission. Last year in Korea during UFG, I met an E-4 OR tech who was an BSN RN with the same story. Unscrupulous recruiter. When I let a former boss of mine, who happened to be the Chief Nurse for AMEDD recruiting, know what happened, he blew his lid.

MAJ Samuel Weber
I was an AMEDD recruiter for 4 years before applying for a commission. I assume you are in San Antonio? I know a Company 1SG in San Antonio and I could connect you two. I have known him for over 12 years and he would ensure the best AMEDD recruiter would assist you. Message me and I'll give you his contact information. Best of luck and I hope to congratulate you as a new member of the Nurse Corps.
