I retire in just over five years and am looking to be closer to family in Savannah, GA when I do. I'm aware of USAJOBS and Clearancejobs, etc. My main concern is do any of you belive I could find a decent paying job with a contractor or DoD around the Savannah/Fort Stewart area? Looking to use my clearnace and jobs that interest me the most are Security Specialist and Background Investigator. I'll work on my certs and am on my way to finishing my Bachelor's in Intelligence Studies. Any advice is much appreciated.

Yes. Do a MDMP on the AO that you plan on retiring. First thing for that area is who is hiring. Develop your Rolodex now and start shaking hands and meeting people. It’s all about who you know.

Agree. SFC (Join to see) you can't get any job, any place. Fortunately you narrowed it down to an area and a field. I'd go after getting the different Force Protection certifications, physical security programs, joint security inspections. Being a security manager on the Government site would be in the Stewart or HAAF US Army Garrison in the DPTMS. Being a jack of several trades like security and force protection comes in handy. If you could get a BMM or S3 (soldier skill sets) at DPTMS in the next five years, that would line you up to compete for those types of jobs whenever you retire, especially in the last 24 months.

There is a lot of opportunities available on Linked In ( http://www.linkedin.com ). I recommend that you get a resume posted there and keep an eye out for jobs that seem suited to you.

Is Hunter Army Air Field still there? Even Ft. Stewart is only 45 minutes or so away.

Yeah, trying to get HAAaf as my last assignment. Was stationed there before and loved it.
