Hi:
I’m a disabled Veteran collecting Social Security Disability Income and the Government will only allow me to claim 10% on my Disability but I’m 100% disabled as far as Social Security is concerned...
I have no Dental Insurance due to this.
I need to have some dental work done
but I cannot afford to pay for it out of my
pocket.
I’ll be 57 this month.
Does anyone know where I can get either
Free dental work, a policy that’s very cheap,
or a dental group that charges on a wage basis?
I live in Northern Indiana.
Thanks for any information anyone
might have...!
Have a great day and be blessed.

If you have a Dental school in your area, I would try them. Here in San Antonio we have one and the work done is free. There are also programs where Dentists will go to a function and do free work. My wife is a Dental Asst. and her boss does this.

Hi,
That’s a great idea that I never thought of...!
I’m not certain if we have a Dental School around
here so I’ll need to check into this.
If I have any luck with this I will post my experience.
Have a great day and be blessed.

Sorry that it’s taken me so long to update this…
So, no luck with the VA helping me at all, go figure…
What I did manage to do was get qualified for a special
Humana program which includes all of my medical visits,
prescriptions, eye care, and dental at zero cost to me…!!!
I have zero co-pays for any of it too…!
I lucked into this program because the VA, in their infinite wisdom
decided to start charging me co-pays for all of my prescriptions to
the tune of $187 per every 3 months which I could not afford…!
So I started to look for alternatives.
That’s when I found this Humana program.
Guess what…?
After I signed up for the Humana program and went through all of t
trouble to get everything switched over, I find out that I have no co-pays
for my prescriptions or anything else with the VA…!
This is after I was charged hundreds in co-pays and fought with them
telling them I should not be getting charged, that I have been with the VA
for over 10 years and have never had any co-pays…!
Needless to say, I’m done with the VA’s BS and I’m staying with Humana.
Did I mention that Humana will even allow me to continue to see my VA Doctor
who I’ve had for years…?
If any of you have any questions about this please contact me and I’ll attempt to help.
Have a great day and be blessed.

I think that you should contact the VA. If I read your post correctly you are 10% disabled according the the VA. If you are collecting 100% social security disability, then perhaps there is something that the VA can do for you. There are a lot of factors in a VA disability rating besides medical related stuff. Inability to work is a huge one.

Hi,
I’m working of that right now but as everybody knows, dealing with the Government is a slow process...
I was granted 100% Disability by a Social Security Judge back in 2012, after no longer being capable of working since 2009.
I do have Medicare but I don’t have any Dental coverage that I’m aware of.
I need to check into that further too.
Thanks for your help.

I've never done it but when I retired, I was told that you could get dental care on base but it was a standby status. From what I understood, if you want to go there and wait for a no-show or when a dentist has a free moment, they would look at you...depending on what the problem is. If you live near a military base, it doesn't cost anything to give them a call and see if they do this. For what it's worth, I do have dental insurance (Federal) and they don't really seem to pay that much. I'm always having to pay a good amount for any dental care.
Depending on what your problem is, I'd call around to several dental offices and check their costs. Doing this has saved me a little money over time.

Hi,
Another great idea that I hadn’t thought about...!
I’ll need to check on where the nearest base is to me.
I went to Boot Camp and then was stationed on the main
base at GreatLakes,Illinois which is about 3 1/2 hours from
me.
If I happen to find anything out I will report on it.
Thanks for your help.
