I currently have an associates of arts in criminal justice and by next year I plan to complete my associates of science in paralegal studies. I want to reclass for the work experience. I am US Army Reserve with 11 years of active duty service. Currently, I am a state correctional officer in Florida and eventually plan to work for the state attorney's office as a paralegalist.
1. As an E-6 will JAG allow me to reclass?
2. What does a 27D do as Reserves?
3. Will they send me to school for additional paralegal training?
4. Do paralegalist on the civilian sector have good job security?
And any advice that you feel will be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I am currently serving as a Drill Sergeant for the 27D AIT Training Company. I also reclassed as a SSG back in 2007. If you can give me some specific questions/concerns you have I will do my best to answer them.

1. As an E-6 will JAG allow me to reclass? The answer is yes. You may require a waiver for your paygrade, but we currently have SSGs attending AIT.
2. What does a 27D do as Reserves? 27Ds in the Reserve Component have the same duty description as all other components. Process and prepare Article 15's, Administrative Separations, Courts-Martial, and other legal actions. Provide legal guidance (not advise) to the Chains of Command and train and develop junior Paralegals.
3. Will they send me to school for additional paralegal training? The JAG Corps has many courses available on-line as well as resident courses available at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) in Charlottesville, Virginia. As a Reservist the question would be if your home unit would fund you to attend these courses. TJAGLCS is also where Paralegal NCOs attend ALC and SLC. It is considered to be our Regimental Home.
