I never had C-Rats so I cannot tell you how the food tasted. From the MRE standpoint it depended on what you got and over the years they continued to improve them. Most MREs came with Chiclet gum though some people claimed it to be Ex-lax, cheese spread or peanut butter, crackers, a small condiment pouch of salt, pepper, hot sauce, napkin.

Thank you for giving me insight into what was in the C-Rat. I can say the MRE evolved from the C-Rat in that it the MRE was pouched based and you could carry all of it in the large pouch that held it all or break it down and take what you wanted in pockets and such.

ah ok, I only had the C-Rats for a short time but most prominent is the all in one package, no need for anything sharp, all can be eaten without utensils , "squeezing out of the bag". The TP was there of course but then one tried to get the ones with the cake like brick or the Chiclets of the MMs...I just remember the C Rats being tedious and took so much room!
