Have a soldier who's still Active, but enlisted in the NG, but had a small crisis and wants to stay Active, what to do?

I have a SPC who wanted out of active duty really bad. About a month ago, he went to the Reserve Comp. Career Counselor and signed a contract with the Guard. He had a solid plan at first. He was going to work in the cyber field, where he had already started working part time on the weekends and would switch full time after active duty. Well recently they laid him off and he's worried. That was one of his cushions for getting out. Granted he can still go to school, use the GI Bill and all that but that's not enough. He really wants to reenlist for active duty now that his plans fell through, however our only issue is we don't know if he can. He already signed the NG papers and swore in. Post Retention has not been around this past week and we want an answer asap, so I'm looking here to see if anyone can maybe help us out. He's a good soldier and I don't want to tell him "Sorry" just yet if there is any possible solutions to his problem. Maybe just try to see if he can reenlist? Maybe if he goes and does an ARSOF MOS it can override? Just trying to think. None of my higher ups know anything either.

It's not a problem at all. You are not obligated to that Reserve contract until the day after you ETS. The reserve counselor can cancel his contract, it takes about 3 seconds, and your soldier can re-enlist for whatever he's eligible for

LTC Jason Mackay - As of now, you have until the day before ETS to reenlist. It used be you had until 90 days out or something like that.

LTC Jason Mackay the 90 day window you're talking about was suspended two years ago. HQDA felt they could retain more people by giving them up to the last day

CPL (Join to see) I used to get dragged into those 1730 on a Friday ETS at midnight reenlistments

Had an NCO in my previous unit who was in a similar boat. His plans fell through and he got cold feet. Got him re-enlisted with 6 days left until his ETS.

You didn't go into how much school and/or.other training he'd had,.or whether intersvc might interest him, however, I just figured I'd you showed this to him, it might at least pique his curiosity if nothing else...if you can elaborate at all on his training this far, grades, GPAs, IT certifications, assocs, bachekors, SMP, Green to Gold, ROTC thoughts, other comparable mechanisms, I'll try to give what other thoughts I can as well, no rush, whenever you'd want, OK?
