I live in summerville South Carloina next to Joint Base Charlestion.
I can not recall how nany times I see these Air Force people drinking in town at restraunts and going into bars in Uniform.
When I was in the ARMY if you did that most of the time some one would call you out on it. Then call your command. We where only allowed to drink on base in uniform.
I see some of the S.C. Guard people do that but what to you expect from some of them.
Most of us that have been in the Guard know it is going to happen.
I know the Quality of some poeple in the military have dropped, But come on A Air Force E-5 Should know better. Just want to know what has happed to doing the right thing and taking Pride in your self and what you are a part of.

The Air Force has different rules than the Army. Don’t be mad at airmen for doing something that their rules allow. If the Army’s rules allowed it, their people would do it too. This is akin to Marines getting bent out of shape when they see Army and Air Force wearing BDU’s off base. Just because the Marine’s rules don’t allow it, doesn’t mean their rules should be forced on everyone else.

SGT Charles Bartell - Looking through your posts, the impression I got that was that the AF and National Guard had no standards. Most NCOs I know address a situation with the individual they have a question about, and then fail to post a long screed about it on social media. I stand by my statements.

SGT Charles Bartell - You are correct. The bar is a no-go, but your post also mentions having a drink at a restaurant, that is the part that I was saying is perfectly fine.

SrA James Cannon - Yes at the Bar on a Bar Stool. With one emty Beer glass and half full one. Then I heard him ask for one more before my table was ready.
Not in the area of the bar. I should have been more clear on this.

CSM Clifford Fargason - I am NOT saying that the Air Force or the Guard have no standards. I as saying that this is what I have seen of some of their people, And why they are not keeping up with the basic standards of conduct.
Dring at a Bar in uniform makes us all look bad.
remembr the old saying Perception is every thing.

Every installation or Brigade has a written policy and/or guidelines for drinking in uniform on or off post, so there isn’t one blanket policy, it really depends on where you are stationed. Hopefully the personnel are using sound judgement and not driving and drinking.

Tracking this is about the Air Force, primarily, but I figure this excerpt from Army Regulation 670-1 may help someone... somewhere... someday...

Chapter 4-3, par c. Restrictions on wear. (1) Personnel may not wear the combat uniform in off-post establishments that primarily sell alcohol for consumption on the premises. If the off-post establishment sells alcohol and food for consumption on the premises, Soldiers may not wear the combat uniform if their activities in the establishment center on the drinking of alcohol.

Call this interpretation, but it sounds like if I’m in uniform and trying to party at a bar then I’m wrong. However, if I want to grab some libations on my way home, or if I’m out to eat while I’m unform, withstanding a local policy, I’m fine.

Conversely, if I go to, let’s say a chili’s so I can get toasted, I’d better do so out of uniform because my activities now center on drinking rather than having a drink while I eat.

Bravo. That sounds right to me. Sounds to me like having some beer and wings at Hooters is ok in uniform by this policy.

Was having a beer at Top Golf waiting for my wife to bring cilivian clothes. A female customer walked by and laid a napkin on table that read AR 600-85 " be a better role model" It bothered me at first even though I was with in regs.
