I'm a Police Officer as civilian. But I'm thinking on joining Regular Army for a while, probably 3 or 4 year. I want to keep my status as police officer in case I want to get back to the civilian life after my contract is done. Is that something I can do or I have to fully quit my job? The policy of my job is any military leave is allowed if the officer is getting into active service or deployment.

If you go Active Duty, you will not be able to actively serve as a Police Officer. No Commander will sign off on that for you to work as a cop after the duty day is done for the Army. Now, if your department will place you on extended leave of absence and allow you to return to the force after your Active Duty time is done....that is something you will have to discus with your Rep, your station commander and your HRC.

Yes. My Jobs allowed me to have Military Leaves. I'm not going to be workiny as a Police Officer but at least I get to keep a door open in case I decide to go bavk to the reserve component. Some friends told me I can't get leave if I join Regular Army due to Military Leave is only for deployments.

SPC (Join to see) What MOS are you reenlisting for? I would see if your state will consider MP experience valid to keep your POST certification active. I know Colorado you have three years off the Job unless you have Certified LE to stay current beyond that. Not sure what your situation is. As MSG (Join to see) said, your commander has to approve a second job. Not sure if you'd be able to become a reserve officer or reserve sheriff somewhere near where you are stationed but it is competing priorities. I also don't know if you are prohibited from LE, even as an auxiliary due to the Posse Commitais Act that prevents the US military minus the Coast Guard from law enforcement unless there is an insurrection and a Presidential order

SPC (Join to see) - just to make sure I understand the question, slowest zebra here...

1. are you asking if it is possible from an Army stand point to take a leave of absence from your employer to serve a 3-4 year enlistment? That is between you and your employer. If your Department and your union support that I don't think it's an issue. My friend was on a five year leave of absence from Walmart to be on active duty in Germany. I don't know how you stay current on POST certification. Your employer needs to understand that you are not recallable for their purposes.

2. Are you asking if it is possible for the Army allow you to simultaneously serve as an Active Duty Soldier and as a Civilian Police Officer? Pretty sure that is a negative. See my response above.

3. Are you asking Can I maintain my qualification as a Police Officer while serving an Active Duty Enlistment for 3-4 years? Short answer I don't think so. See my response above.

LTC Jason Mackay It was question 1. But already got my answer. I get to keep my job but I would have to take some training and get POST Certified again

I wonder how the MP Game Wardens at Fort Bragg got around Posse Comitatus. They supposedly were also US Fish and Wildlife officers. Lived in quarters out in the boon docks and often required contact with civilians hunting and fishing on the reservation and cited them. I guess because they were acting as Fish and Wildlife officers instead of MPs in that instance.

Wouldn't need to be able to maintain your P.O.S.T. credits?

SSG Laurie Mullen that was one of my first thoughts. CO will let you go three years. Depending on what is happening, I see either Department dropping him like a 300 level Physics elective or the Union twisting it around in some way that will get him in a spot where he might have to redo an Academy.
