Merry Christmas! The family gave me a gift for my Mess Dress as a gift however not sure if I should get them but am considering because of the following. I’ve been assigned to the CAG of a Joint Unified Sub-Command. The CG is a two star Navy RADM who I’ll be spending quite a bit of time traveling CONUS or OCONUS. As such, should I purchase the uniforms for those high profile social engagements. Interested in knowing what the RP community thinks.

CPT (Join to see) looking at AR670-1 16-3, you may only wear the White Mess Uniform between April and October unless assigned to clothing zones I and II. If you are going to PCS to many places, you will get more mileage out of the Blue Mess uniform, which can be worn anywhere. That is the principal difference in my mind. I've never owned the White Mess, only the Blue Mess, which I had made in Korea.
I would contact the current staff and ensure that you understand the service equivalents to the Admiral's uniforms so you "match". The Naval War College once published a joint table that let you know what went to what for uniforms and civil attire. See if the command (maybe protocol) has that too.

Roger that Sir and many thanks. You make a great point on the differences in the uniforms. I’ll reach out to the staff but it sounds like Mess Blue is the way to go.

CPT (Join to see) - see if FL is in clothing zone I or II. If you were at SOUTHCOM, white mess may be worth it. I believe locations at or near equator are the intended location...like it makes a difference. Hot is hot.
A friend of mine was in the Panama Canal Zone and had the Mess Whites.

That's a little complicated. As an aide you should be in the same/similar uniform. However as an LT, you don't really need one until your a field grade. On top of that, you are on duty. Your uniform should allow you to carry what the boss needs, be it coins, cards, or breath mints. I found my ASUs worked pretty good, however I had mine tailored so I could hook things my belt (phones, flash light... SIG...). It all depends on your mission set.

CPT Brock Young yes, but the first thing is you have to be in the service equivalent of the same uniform. Even at social gigs, the ADC still lugs around his little kit bag of those items for the flag officer.

Is there any way that you can get in touch with anyone assigned to that command to see what they think? CPT (Join to see), if you are able to do so, then you may be able to get some intel as to what they are able to give you.
Just a thought sir.
