Every month certificates from online training need to be turned in (SHARP, AT level 1, INFOSEC etc...) How do you feel about the Army transitioning to a great deal of its training being done online?

To me it seems like its more of a block that needs to be checked, rather than something that actually needs to get completed for the betterment of the unit. Personally I think if this training was completed face to face, NCO to soldier it would have a much greater impact. Our unit has very few computers, and none of them have speakers, so rather than actually hearing the information, and soaking it in, soldiers just stare at a screen and guess the answers to the test, mostly to get it done by COB.

It is a block to be checked. If you Soldiers could hear the information what stops them from just clicking through the slides to get to the end? Also with unlimited opportunities to take the test and Soldiers sharing answers anyway no one really gets anything out of the training. We spend so much time with both online training and face to face 350-1 training we have less time to train in our common tasks and our MOS tasks.

The problem I have is the training doesn't seem to hit home, we click through and cheat and call it good. We need leaders who buy into the training and enforce good solid training in person or seriously revamp the online training aspect.

I agree 100%, SFC Howard. The units make a huge deal out of this training, but don't actually dedicate any time, or effort for that matter in getting it done properly. Its seems like its more of a waste of time than anything else, especially because, like you mentioned, senior leadership is tracking that all of the other soldiers give each other the answers, as long as it gets done that's all that matters.

As a DOD Civilian now, I am subject to the same online training. Would I involve myself in human trafficking, would I accept gifts/bribes from from foreign Governments...Nope. But there needs to be documentation that you are aware.

I feel like it's a check in the box as everyone continues to kick a dead horse on subjects and not concentrating on making soldiers professionals at their MOS.
Are some good? Yes but with it being online, how much information are you really retaining?
