I am currently awaiting scroll approval for a direct commission as a 1st Lt in the Army Nurse Corps. I am looking for any reference material or recommended reading for new Army Officers and those new to the Army. Thanks in advance!

1. The Armed Forces Officer, originally written by SLA Marshall, subsequently updated for the last 50 years, its free as a pdf
2. The Army Officers Guide, its updated annually and will cost you some money. You'll find it useful for many things.
3. TR Fehrnbach This Kind of War.
4. AR600-20 The Army Command Policy. This codifies the role officers play and where our authority comes from.
5. AR670-1 and the DA PAM 670-1. (PS You'll need to present your Navy and Marine Corps decorations through personnel channels for a one time acceptance by DA. See HRC Army Awards Page for more info)
Fiction
1. The series of books written by Howard Coyle that starts with Team Yankee. As a Nurse, pay attention to The Ten Thousand. Howard Coyle is the Tom Clancy of maneuver warfare. He never met an OPLAN he didn't like. You'll pick up some stuff and not be miserable doing so.
2. Starship Troopers. First person to mention the sh!t movie will get it in the knee caps. Heinlein does a good job handling the divide between officers, NCOs, and enlisted soldiers. All references to gang latrines in the book have no jiggle factor. I hope Paul Verhoven rots.
CSA reading list. Skim it and see if anything grabs you. https://history.army.mil/html/books/105/105-1-1/index.html

The U.S. Army Chief of Staff's Professional Reading List - U.S. Army Center of Military History
A course of personal study and contemplation is an essential component for the individual development of every Army professional. Each of us faces busy schedules every day and finding time to read and think is a recurring challenge. But even as we train our units and physically condition our bodies, we must improve our minds through reading and critical thinking.
