I'm currently serving on a small team that consists of 7 Officers and 15 NCOs. My commander recently sent an invite to all members to a baby shower for him and his wife. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this.

As long as it’s not mando, or stipulating and requiring gifts, just go. It actually breeds cohesion especially with you in a small team.

Have fun. Don't drink and drive. Giving diapers at a baby shower is a great gift.

Go have fun? Got it. Skipper's style points suck. Proper protocol would be for the wife to invite other ladies and guest with a note there's stuff for the guys too. The people that come are glad to vs. compelled to. I've always been very adverse to "command performances". The only command stuff that I pushed for all hands was the redeployment bash where I bought most the beer. I kept the awards stuff to twice a year and had tolerated the change of commands as a necessary thing. That and the Dining Ins were epic.
