Does TIS and/or TIG reset when switching branches?

So I’m a prior sailor that picked up E5 in the Navy (active) in 2013 and got out in 2014. When I enlisted in the Army (active) in 2017 they let me keep my rank but my ERB was all screwed up. I’ve gotten everything corrected for the most part but my DOR shows the day they did my grade determination in the Army (2017), so I’m wondering is it normal for TIS and/or TIG to reset when switching branches or going from guard/reserve?

Yes that is correct. Your TIG for your E5 is the date your grade determination was approved for your enlistment in the Army because that’s when your time started on this current enlistment. In order for you to receive credit for your prior TIS you have to go see retention and have them to complete a 1506 so the can calculate your correct TIS. I hope this helps...Good Luck...

Yeah man, I picke up SSgt in the Corps in Jan 08.....left in 2011. When I joined the Army reserves, my stuff switched to my date of enlistment (Mar 2014), so I lost the 3 years in between (obviously because I was not enlisted). Google up the Army enlistment regulation for date of rank. I used to have it and it tells you the ins and outs of it.
